Purpose of the position

The Humanitarian Liaison Officer is responsible for establishing and maintaining relationships across humanitarian responders, such as the UN, institutional donors, churches and Government ministries in Bujumbura in order to profile and coordinate the work of LWF Burundi and identify and respond to funding opportunities.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor degree in a relevant related social science.

Knowledge, skills and experience

Two years of experience in international humanitarian / development NGO. Knowledge of the Burundian humanitarian context is desirable;

Ability to develop and maintain relationships across a wide range of humanitarian responders, international, national, and local;

Excellent interpersonal communication and coordination skills;

Strong organizational and written communication for different audiences;

Flexibility, motivation, patience and ability to work under pressure and with very tight deadlines;

Cultural sensitivity and adaptability. High degree of integrity and professional responsibility;

Ability to work independently and at times with little supervision;

Ability to reside in Bujumbura, Burundi with travel to Cankuzo if need be;

Positive and pro-active team player;

Strong computer literacy.

Main duties

Assists the NCD in participating in key UN interagency coordination meetings in Bujumbura to input and receive analysis of the humanitarian situation inside Burundi, in order to develop bi-weekly situation reports;

Increases the visibility of LWF by supporting the NCD in communication matters;

Assists in LWF or inter-agency assessments which will inform project design and proposal developments;

Contributes towards seeking funding opportunities in-country and develops, together with the LWF team in Burundi and the Global Funding Team, by providing inputs towards high quality project proposals and concept notes for submission to key donors;

Scans the internet and other sources for ongoing calls for opportunities;

Assists the NCD in convening the ACT Burundi Forum in Bujumbura or convene ACT Forum meetings. Keep records of the meetings;

Supports the NCD and Programme Coordinator in matters related to the implementation of the Core Humanitarian Standards;

Provides support to update the LWF Burundi website, and develop communication materials on the situation inside Burundi;

Assists the CND and/or the Programme Coordinator in related miscellaneous duties as requested.
