Background:
The Lutheran World Federation, in response to the Syrian refugee crisis, established operations in Jordan in 2012. The Lutheran World Federation is assisting refugees and vulnerable groups in Amman, Zarqa, Irbid and Za’atari camp. The Lutheran World Federation is running projects related to Education, Livelihoods and Protection. **
Scope of work
To ensure that children, youth and adults in the LWF Community Centers in Irbid, Zarqa and Za'atari camp are emotionally and socially thriving within a community that enables and supports their wellbeing through the designing, providing technical support and ensuring the quality of implementation of structured and unstructured protection activities including counseling, PSS, case management referral, in addition to capacity building to councilors and protection team and any related activities. **
About the job:
The Protection advisor is responsible for quality of implementation of LWF’s protection activities in the LWF Community Center including providing technical support of protection staff (case managers, assistant, Counsellor and volunteers) targeting of beneficiaries and protection monitoring. And lead the protection program development.
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Supervise and mentorship for counselors ensuring high quality of services provided at the field level**
· Regularly discuss the care plans with counsellors and identify opportunities for improvement**
· Building capacity and strengthening counselors’ knowledge and skills to provide individual and group counseling sessions**
· Review and develop the protection program in terms of structure, process and activities **
· Review the case management process, model and structure **
· Input into policy development (revising, updating, and writing new policies, ToR, staff competencies, documentations forms and styles for counselors) and facilitate workflow within a multidisciplinary team**
· Provide on-Job training for new and in-need staff on therapeutic modalities and counseling approaches**
· Provide the evidence base and best practices for CP counselors**
· Developing of guidelines and learning materials in addition to have clear recommendation for the protection team on the technical aspect for the team. **
· Revise sessions conducted by counselors and provide therapeutic input and guidance on an individual basis**
· Conduct counselling sessions and develop treatment and follow up plans**
· Ensure that all counselors are meet the monthly targets at an accepted level of quality**
· Provide a weekly and monthly report on work progress and improvement plans, and contribute to donor reports**
· Follow up on Protection activities quality and progress **
· Review tools and materials used for awareness and protection activities **
· Support in proposal writing and new projects designs.**
· Strengthen the partnerships and networks with the other INGOs, NGOs, local CBOs, government entities and other stakeholders in regards the protection intervention.**
Ensure that counselors are able to:
· Conduct risk assessment for clients accessing counseling services and ensure appropriate follow-up mechanisms.
· Work closely within a multi-disciplinary team to holistically address the needs of each client.
· Provide individual counseling sessions to children, youth, and families/caregivers, as well as provide guidance and strategies to reduce risk and promote wellbeing
· Consider the importance of family dynamics on counseling and, where possible, engage the family in counseling sessions.
· Provide counseling with the aim to improve the social and emotional functioning of children and their families, maximizing overall community wellbeing.
· Monitor ongoing care plan implementation in relation to a child’s counseling needs, with special attention to identifying risk issues and communicating these issues to the allocated Child Protection Case Manager
· Conduct caregiver/parenting skills training where appropriate.
· Evaluate client satisfaction and appropriateness of care provided.
· Develop processes and support clients to define goals and develop a clear and realistic action plan.
· Approach clients from a holistic and multi-disciplinary perspective.
· Link clients with appropriate services to support their holistic wellbeing.
· Work sensitively with a variety of populations including persons experiencing high levels of distress, persons experiencing different sort of disabilities.
· Conduct awareness and protection activities and engage with the wider community on promoting emotional wellbeing and positive mental health.
· Support of other staff: Where relevant and, as a part of case management team, contribute and in initiating and reviewing care plans for individual children, with participation from the child and family, helping clients to define goals, plan action and gain insight.
· Provide trainings to case management staff as requested on good communications skills, identification and referral to counselling services, Psychological First Aid, and any other topics as needed.
· Support case managers to develop client-centered goals.
· Engage in client case conferencing on a regular basis.
· Provide verbal and written feedback to Program manager on progress, lesson learnt, achievements and gaps, issues and problems.
· Conduct technical staff capacity analysis for LWF staff, volunteer & partner then present recommendation to the line manager.
· Prepare related protection training sessions for LWF staff, Volunteer, and partners.
· Support position line manager & HR & Admin Manager on technical position recruitment process as but not limited to (review, build JD’s, screen, long list and participate in the interviews).
· Propose and recommend the ideal model of the protection structure within the LWF program & support the HR & Admin Manager in the technical JD’s review.
Other:
Any other task requested by the line manager and form LWF scope of the work.
Professional Standards:
· The LWF and LWF workers must adhere to the values and principles outlined in the code of Conduct.
Required qualifications:
Essential:
· Master’s degree in psychology or counseling, with a minimum of four (4) years of experience, previous experience in UN, INGO, NGO (Humanitarian field), master’s degree is preferable
· Official MoH practice license
· Obtaining a diploma or specialized training courses in psychotherapy relevant professional technical experience is desirable
· Experienced with specialized psychological assessment and treatment of a wide range of mental health problems of varying severity and complexity
· Familiarity with international protection and human rights legal standards, with special emphasis on women rights, child rights and SGBV.
· Proven experience in developing training manuals, Sop and Protection Tools.
· Proven experience in conducting training and facilitating sessions, TOT is a plus.
· Very Good spoken and written English and /Arabic and relevant computer skills.
· Very Good computer skills.
· Valid Driving license.
